Hockey vs Monkstown & Rugby Training

The saying "start your day with a good breakfast" was meant especially for us.  After having the most delicious 3-course dinner (which included butternut soup, hearty Irish stew and Chocolate cheesecake) we were blown away with an amazing spread at breakfast.  Thank goodness for walking the amount we have done...

In high spirits we got onto the bus to our first hockey fixture vs Monkstown Hockey Club

Taking in the sight along the way we eventually passed Blackrock College (Father Sean's alma mater).  So, Father this little pic is for you...

Arriving at Monkstown hockey club we were amazed to see their youth groups training from early morning.  One of the biggest hockey clubs in Ireland, they cater for over 600 youths.  The Club actually has a waiting list.  We were also pleasantly surprised as their coach, Natalie is a South African who moved to Dublin last year and is a player-coach.

Even Maddison was happy with the days game...

Our game started off slow but throughout the girls started sticking to their structures and manage to score the first goal.  Jhetan Govender scored on the left with a beautiful deflection.  However two minutes later Monkstown broke through our defence and scored a very good goal leaving the game tied.  This however did not stop our Marist girls from giving up, in fact it gave them renewed energy to get up to our goals and have some shots at goal.  3 more goals were scored, 2 from Chelsea Ingle and one slide deflection from Jaime Van Der Walt.  The game finished on a 4-1 win for us!  We are extremely proud of how the girls handled themselves on and off the field today.  Some stars were Natasha Bauer on solid defence and Jodi Biggar on fine distribution.  And a big thank you to the support of the rugby boys and off course our travelling parents!

After the game the girls made their way back to the hotel for a shower and to deliver laundry.  The boys went on to the National Sport Campus for their training session with Isaac Boss (former Irish scrum half) and Richart Strauss (former Irish Hooker and former Cheetahs player).  The afternoon was focussed on basic skill development and allowing the boys to stretch their legs before tomorrow's fixture.  Richart and Isaac were fantastic and the boys took to them extremely well.  They also focussed on some of the individual players and their own individual skill sets.  Seth Pietersen lost the throw off against Richart much to his own distress...
A big thank you to these guys for spending the afternoon with us!

We ended our evening off with a beautiful mass at St Mary's Pro Cathedral.
